The Mont Albert Cricket Club are excited to announce that Gus McLean will play his 300th senior game for the club on Saturday the 16/11. Congratulations Gus! This is a fantastic achievement by an absolute legend of the club.

Gus commenced at Mont Albert Cricket Club in 1998 and has been a long standing captain of our 5th XI (arguably one of the most demanding roles at the club – having to balance interests across a huge age range and often scrambling for players on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings). Despite this, Gus has aptly supported the development of our younger players and has helped create a fun and inclusive team environment. He is a great leader at MACC and the club owes him a great debt for his ever cheerful service.

Gus has a remarkable on-field record having made in excess of 9400 runs for the club at an average of 40.25. He has made 7 centuries and 77 half centuries with a highest score of 123*. He places a huge value on his wicket, and as an opening the batsman, he frequently holds the innings together. They just can’t get him out!!! Gus has won the 5th XI batting average on 11 occasions in 21 seasons, which clearly highlights his consistency.

Gus also has 220 catches, 14 stumpings, 2 direct run outs and 38 assisted run outs, together with his occasional – yet effective – bowling of 41 wickets at 20.00, with a best of 6/35. Possibly should’ve bowled himself more…

It was a fantastic day in 2014 when Gus was awarded life membership of Mont Albert CC, an award reflecting his selflessness in supporting the club over such a long period.

Congratulations from all at Mont Albert Cricket Club!
