After 14 seasons at the helm, on the 14th June 2023, Peter Knox elected to step down as President of MACC, and in doing so, paved the way for Aubrey Roga to take his place. Peter has been working closely with Aubrey over the past few months to ensure that the transition is smooth, and he leaves the presidency in a very strong position.
Aubrey – the CEO of a financial services company who has become more an more involved at MACC since his son joined the junior program – brings a strong business acumen to the role, and a commitment to further develop the passionate leaders at the club. He is also keen to continue to build on MACC as a community hub for Mont Albert and the surrounding suburbs.
At the AGM on Wednesday night, Aubrey noted how honoured he was in being asked to lead MACC into the future, and how equally excited and nervous he was to be filling such big shoes in the role. He has also asked Peter to stay on as a general committee member to make the transition even smoother.
Please join us in celebrating Aubrey’s new role at MACC.
Fourteen seasons is a long time to be in a volunteer leadership role. During his time as president, Peter has made an incredibly large contribution to MACC, some of which will be valued for long into the future. On Wednesday night, Richard Barker spoke of Peter’s rise to the presidency role and his achievements.
“Joined MACC 1998-1999, first playing in the 3rd XI by 2007/08 Peter was captaining the 3rd Xi and part of the general committee, Peter ceased playing in 2015 and ended with 2506 @ 23.64 HS108 (3 Centuries) from 137 matches, 5 wickets
Peter took over from KR in 2009-10, in my usual way, it was thought by some that I should take over but it seems I said to Peter – have I got a job for you………
The Club had instant success taking out the Dunstan Shield in 2009-10
This heralded a period of outstanding success for MACC, including:
Dunstan Shield 2009-10, 2012-13, 2017-18
2nd XI Premiers 2015-16, 2016-17, 2017-18, 2018-19
As well as numerous 3rd, 4th, vets, Juniors and Girls
We are sitting in one of Peter’s best achievements, the redevelopment of the GG Armstrong pavilion. I was on the design committee for the pavilion and played the voice of reason between the Council and Peter, a sometimes dangerous position!”
“Peter has put the interests of MACC 1st in everything he has done as President, anything else was a distant second. He has been able to recruit players, coaches and captains to the club, hosted English players, loaned them cars, maintained contacts within the cricket community and presided over one of the most successful periods in the Club’s history.
We need to thank Peter for all the work he has put in over the years and I hope he looks forward to many more years as a spectator at Mont Albert Reserve.”
Indeed, the club owes a great debt to Peter for his service, and we take this opportunity to thank him dearly for his outstanding contribution.
Aubrey made the point of insisting that we have a club-wide celebration for Peter at some stage during the season. Please keep your eyes out for details.
