MACC are excited to announce that Tyson Freeman has been appointed senior coach for the 2023-24 season. Tyson brings a wealth of experience from district cricket at Ringwood, and follows in the footsteps of his father – Mark Freeman – who was captain/coach in the early 2000s. In 2022-23, his first season at MACC, Tyson demonstrated his commitment to creating and fun and competitive environment for both senior and junior players at MACC. He worked hard to develop consistency in the 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and Sunday team, which will hold him in great stead to take the reigns as senior coach from the outgoing Mark Simpson.
In accepting the position last week, Tyson made the connection between his own path and his father’s, and reminisced on his early experiences at MACC as a kid. “I’m thrilled to accept the position of head coach for the 2023/24 season. It’s very exciting to follow in Dads footsteps and be named coach of MACC, my first cricket memories are running around at Mont Albert Reserve with a plastic cricket bat. I am really looking forward to continuing to grow the clubs successful reputation in the ECA. Can’t wait for the pre-season to roll around and start getting to work on a successful 2023/24 campaign.”
MACC president – Peter Knox – has been impressed by Tyson’s demonstrated skills in the deputy role over the past 12 months and is excited for what 2023-24 can bring with Tyson in place as senior coach. “This is great news for MACC, Tyson joined our club at the beginning of the 22-23 season and immediately impressed everyone with his ability to communicate, his on-field know how and skill in developing programs right across our player base. With Tyson taking on the role as playing Coach I think we have an exciting season ahead and I can’t wait for Summer. Like many of our old blokes I do indeed remember Tyson running around the club as a very little bloke!”
Tyson will join forces with First XI Captain – Andrew Padbury – in 2023-24.
MACC would also like to take this opportunity to thank outgoing senior coach – Mark Simpson – for his dedication and enthusiasm during an incredibly challenging period over the past few years. Having to overcome and manage lockdowns, training restrictions, and health and safety protocols – all things I’m certain he didn’t foresee when he commenced the role in 2020-21 – Mark did a fine job in helping the club develop our standards. We wish Mark all the best in his new work ventures.
Go Monts!
