Today is International Volunteers Day – 5th December. You can be forgiven for not knowing because until my foray to Vietnam this year, I had no idea it was even a thing either.
Today is all about two things: Recognising our volunteers, and encouraging others to lend a hand.
To all of those that assist the Mont Albert Cricket Club in a volunteer capacity – whether you’re the president, the practice captain (looking at you Roger), a captain, a junior manager or you just help out from time to time – we would like to thank you.
Your contribution is invaluable and highly appreciated.
The slogan for this years International Volunteers Day is “Volunteer for Inclusion”. This is something that Mont Albert CC have been striving to achieve for generations. In particular, over the past few years the club has aimed to promote inclusion of women, different ethnic communities, the wider Mont Albert community and those with disabilities, among others. And whilst we are not perfect, our volunteers strive to be inclusive at all times. We hope to continue to prioritise inclusion at MACC, and not just on the sporting field.
Volunteering provides a great opportunity to give back to your community, build capacity in others, hone new skills and develop strong relationships.
The psychologist in me is also tempted to mention that there is a strong association between altruism and both physical and mental health. Indeed, those that are more altruistic, tend to live longer.
MACC is run entirely by volunteers and we are always seeking enthusiastic people to join our team. So, if you think you can help in any way, or have a suggestion, please reach out. More information is available HERE.
