Over the years Mont Albert Cricket Club have always had both boys and girls involved in cricket through the Milo and Woolworths cricket programs which have given them an introduction to cricket, a fun Friday night at the end of a school week and given them a sense of community.
We know that the majority of our boys will follow the U10-18 year old pathway to Seniors once they finish the Master Blast Woolworths program; but we also need to focus on giving our girls the support they need to encourage them to also progress along their cricket pathway and keep them involved in cricket into their teenage and even adult years.
So how do we give them that support….
As Chair of Inner East Girls Cricket (IEGC) and one of the Junior Co-ordinators at MACC, Dani Hedley is going to work alongside this seasons Woolworths Blast coaching team of Ben Chapman-Lilley (Senior player from the UK) and mentor Richard Barker to support our girls with their cricket and development. After our first introductory session on Friday the 21st of October the plan will then be for the girls to train together in the weeks leading up to Christmas with the possibility of them participating in a fun-filled round robin with other local clubs in February 2023. We will need to take small steps but with your support will get there.
Next season we will then plan for the girls to enter The Inner East Girls Cricket (IEGC) development program which then progresses through Stages 1, 2 and 3 as their skills develop, with Stage 3 this season including a 40 over game which is a new format for girls cricket in Victoria at Community Level.
So if you have a daughter or friend who is interested in having a focused girls team and having lots of fun please register for the Woolworths Blast via the Mont Albert Cricket Club website:
For further information about the girls development program, you can go here.
The Woolworths program is open to all primary school age children aged 5-10 and will be run on Friday nights from 5.30-6.30pm. Parent involvement is an absolute necessity and after cricket there will be a sausage sizzle, icy poles and time for the kids to run around and for family and friends to catch up.
The Woolworths program starts on Friday the 21st of October so register now for a fun filled 9 weeks before Christmas and then sessions during February 2023. You can even just come along and try on Friday the 21st and register after the evening – it will just mean a delay in the arrival of your cricket pack.
See you there.
