All Mont Albert CC members and supporters,
The proposed plans for the Surrey Hills and Mont Albert Level Crossing Project if implemented in their current form will have a significant negative impact on our club over the coming years with the proposed loss of the upper ground of Surrey Park where our 5ths play. Together with the planned use of Elgar Park North West for the North East Link Project our club will be doubly impacted. In fact we are the only sporting club facing the loss of venues to both these major projects in our locality during their extended construction phases.
The merits of the projects are not being debated here, rather the unfair share of the burden our club is being asked to carry. I urge you to voice your opinion in support of our club, the other impacted local clubs and our great friends at the Community Bank by completing the SURVEY HERE.
Also below is a supporting note from the Chair of our local Bendigo Bank Juliann Byron. A few moments of your time can make a profound difference and tip the balance towards a fairer and more considered solution to this immediate and serious problem for all of us.
Thank you for your support.
Go Monts!

To our valued Community
The Victorian Government has fast-tracked the removal of the Union Road and Mont Albert Road level crossings, with major construction starting in 2022 and boom gates gone in 2023. After extensive engineering assessments, they have determined the best way to remove these level crossings is to lower the rail line into a trench beneath the roads and combine the existing Surrey Hills and Mont Albert stations into a new premium station.
The Planning Project boundary is significant, extending from the car park at the Canterbury Railway Station on Canterbury Road moving east to Thurston St, Box Hill. Included in this area is the Canterbury Sports Ground and the sporting fields and surrounding areas at Surrey Park (on the corner of Elgar Road and Canterbury Road).
The inclusion of the Canterbury and Surrey Park Sports grounds in the project boundary will have a significant impact on the Sports Clubs who are tenants and the hundreds of local residents who use the grounds on a daily basis. If they remain in the Project Boundary, this will result in the grounds being unavailable to clubs and residents. No training, no games, no events, no club room access.
There is an opportunity to provide feedback on the proposed project via a survey. All feedback received will be summarised and included in a consultation report. Planning submissions can be made until 11.59pm Sunday 28 February 2021. For further information on the project and to provide feedback, please click the button below.
