The Committees of the North Balwyn Cricket Club and the Mont Albert Cricket Club are pleased to announce the playing of the inaugural Dalrymple Family Shield, on February 2 at the Mont Albert Reserve.
The Dalrymple Family Shield will be played annually between the Mont Albert and North Balwyn 1st XI’s on one occasion per season.
The Dalrymple family have a long history at these two clubs, with Len Dalrymple as the oldest living life member of Mont Albert CC.
Debuting in 1949, Len has played 260 games for Mont Albert, and was awarded Life Membership by the club in 1967, the highest honour that is bestowed upon a member. Len passed on his love of cricket to his three sons, Neil, Simon and Ian, who all share long histories with these two clubs.
Simon is a 10-year plus player at Mont Albert CC, being a key batsmen in their 1st XI, winning numerous batting awards including a high score of 131 not out and playing in 2 premiership teams.
Both Ian and Neil have long playing histories with North Balwyn with both having played over 20 seasons, winning numerous awards as well as both being captain of the 1st XI and coach of the club.
Ian debuted at North Balwyn in 1985 and made an impact in the 1st XI with both his batting and leg spin bowling, is a 5 time Club Champion, won numerous 1st XI batting and bowling averages and also won the Dunstan medal.
Neil debuted in 1980 at North Balwyn CC and also played 3 seasons at Mont Albert CC. As a keen batsman and occasional leg spinner, Neil has won numerous batting awards, as well as recently representing Victoria at the Over 50’s national competition.
In addition, Neil has been President (for the last 10 years) and has served on the committee for the past 12 seasons and has won the Chas Duncan Trophy twice for best senior clubman, as an acknowledgement for his work at the club.
Len Dalrymple will present the winning the team the Dalrymple Family Shield at the conclusion of play this Sunday.
